Jump Start Your Memoir | A Writing Retreat September 12th-15th, 2024

  • Live Workshop

Join Erica Bauermeister, NYT bestselling author, to explore the wonder of your own story.

This class is open to students of all levels, whether you are aiming for publication or self-discovery. And while the class focuses on memoir, many of the lessons are applicable for fiction as well.

Have you always said you were going to write a memoir, or have you started and gotten stuck? Here’s a chance to give yourself a weekend to focus, learn, share, and let your mind open in a beautiful, natural environment. Writing prompts will help you get started, mini lessons will help enrich your writing. We’ll take advantage of the surroundings and the incredible food to remind us to use all five of our senses, in life and in writing. The goal is for you to leave at the end of the weekend refreshed and motivated to keep going.

NEW CLASS TECHNIQUES WE’LL EXPLORE

  1. Finding your story and voice
  2. Creating vivid scenes and characters
  3. Moving beyond the sense of sight
  4. Developing perspective

Erica Bauermeister is the NYT bestselling author of 5 novels, including No Two Persons, The Scent Keeper, and The School of Essential Ingredients. Her memoir, House Lessons: Renovating a Life, was a finalist for the Washington State Book Award. Her novels have been translated into over 25 languages and have been chosen as a Reese’s Pick, a Costco Pennie’s Pick, and Indie Next Picks. Her writing has been called “delicious enough to devour.”

On the more academic side, Erica has a PhD in literature and is the co-author of two readers’ guides — 500 Great Books by Women and Let’s Hear it for the Girls. She has taught at both the University of Washington and Antioch University, and at workshops and conferences throughout the United States.

When describing her writing, Erica says:  I write about the things we don’t pay attention to—our sense of smell, the food we cook, the houses we live in, the way our filters affect our perceptions of the world. I write about those quiet spaces between words, and all that goes on inside them. But most of all, I write about compassion—because that is what teaches us to see everything else.

Our cabins provide a tranquil sanctuary, a place to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and reconnect with the simplicity and beauty of nature. Prepare to be enchanted as you embark on an unforgettable elevated camping experience in the comfort of our inviting cabins at Hunter Moon Homestead.

Your every comfort has been considered. Each cabin is furnished with a pillow top mattress, down comforter and pillows, 100% cotton satteen sheets and fresh terry cloth towels.

Cabin guests are invited to use the shared bath house just a short walk away.

TROY COTTAGE

Located a quick 10 minute drive into the town of Troy, our guest cottage is a studio with small kitchenette, private bathroom and fenced yard.

This is a double occupancy booking that must be shared with another guest.

Our closest airports are:

-Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport (PUW)

-Spokane International Airport (GEG)

-Lewiston-Nez Perce County Regional Airport (LEW)

From Moscow, take HWY 8 East through Troy. Just past town, take a right up Little Bear Ridge Road. At the "T" turn right to stay on Little Bear Ridge Road. Travel 2.5 miles and watch for the sign on your right hand side. If you hit a gravel road, you've gone too far!

The Bee House Studio was originally built as a grain barn around 1915. This barn housed food stores for working animals on this original turn of the century homestead, but is now our working artist's studio and retreat house!

We have restored the barn to include a beautiful kitchen, full bathroom, class room, a master bedroom suite, and a cozy bunk and lounging room.

All classes and breakfast service will be offered in the Bee House.

Unfortunatley we are unable to offer refunds on events and workshops. All sales are FINAL SALE and no refunds will be issued after purchase. If you are unable to attend you may request to transfer your spot to the first person on our waitlist or gift it to a friend.

At Hunter Moon Homestead, we are committed to providing a tranquil and harmonious environment for all our guests. To ensure a serene experience for everyone, we kindly ask that you refrain from bringing pets onto the premises. While we understand the deep bond between humans and their furry companions, this policy is designed to maintain the peaceful coexistence of our guests and respect the diverse needs and preferences of our community.
