The Modern Homesteader | Art + Lifestyle Retreat June 13th-16th, 2024

  • Live Workshop

Contemporary Practices From A Botanical Perspective

You are in the garden at Hunter Moon Homestead with Kate Poole at the peak of spring! You are harvesting lavender, sage, chamomile, lemon balm, calendula, rose geranium, thyme, basil, oregano, dill, rose... With this botanical bounty, you will learn how to preserve, infuse, and distill. You will come to know the healing potentials for what you are harvesting very personally. You will learn to make fermented libations and infuse herbs into oil, vinegars, and honey. We are quite certain you will become a student of the ancient art of homeopathy, we will show you the first steps.

In the kitchen you will prepare foods enhanced by flavors and healing properties of the herbs and plants you have gathered. Canning and preserving food basics will be explored, and you will take away new versions of old recipes made so much better with added botanical plants. Local milk and nut milks will be magically transformed into cheese, you will taste the freshest versions of this transformative process.
In the apothecary you will learn how to use the infused herbs to make salves and body butters. You will ceremonially taste the plant waters extracted by distilling in our copper still.
Hunter Moon Homestead host Kate Poole has decades of experience in creating beautiful home and garden environments. For this workshop we will work hands on and use a plethora of botanical ingredients growing here at Hunter Moon Homestead to make a variety of healing and culinary delights.
