Shadow + Light | Paint, Sketch + Stitch, A Mixed Media Art Retreat June 27th-30th, 2024

  • Live Workshop

We would love for you to join us for an exceptional creative experience that promises to inspire your imagination through the beauty of nature; whether you're just beginning your creative journey or have been creating for a while, this workshop will encourage you to find freedom and beauty in your way of creating.

We will take advantage of the natural beauty of Hunter Moon Homestead by stepping outside the studio to collect visual imagery as a way into our art. By capturing beautiful moments with a camera and time to meander and sketch, we will observe how light and shadow become beautiful dance partners with nature and can inspire beauty and drama in our art.

Back in the studio, we will bring everything we've gathered and create beautiful inky abstracts, fun sweeping charcoal flowers on paper, expressive painted landscapes, and delicate florals. Other lessons include sketching a simple portrait on raw canvas with stitched florals and transforming a beautiful vintage book with your marks, color studies, paintings, pressed flowers, collages, and anything you want to add to create a one-of-a-kind treasure. This creative retreat will allow you time to step into nature and find a beautiful path that will lead the way to your art.

THE ARTIST
Renee Mueller

instagram @reneedesigns

Renee earned a BFA from the University of Michigan in Dance and Choreography. She danced professionally and was honored to teach dance at the University of Michigan's Musical Theater and Theater Departments.

After a beautiful career in the performing arts, Renee became a full-time working artist, and has found the journey from dance to art incredibly inspiring, humbling, and remarkable. Being a dancer gave her a unique perspective on the creative process, and she is passionate about teaching others how to step into the flow of creativity, embrace the beauty of their unique gifts, and unearth their style and voice as an artist.

She hopes everyone taking her classes walks away with a renewed feeling of confidence, new techniques, and, most importantly, that their creativity matters. Renee lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, with her husband Marc, who continues to support all her creative dreams, and their beautiful daughter Olivia.

This is a double occupancy booking that must be shared with another guest.

Our closest airports are:

-Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport (PUW)

From Moscow, take HWY 8 East through Troy. Just past town, take a right up Little Bear Ridge Road. At the "T" turn right to stay on Little Bear Ridge Road. Travel 2.5 miles and watch for the sign on your right hand side. If you hit a gravel road, you've gone too far!

The Bee House Studio was originally built as a grain barn around 1915. This barn housed food stores for working animals on this original turn of the century homestead, but is now our working artist's studio and retreat house!

We have restored the barn to include a beautiful kitchen, full bathroom, class room, a master bedroom suite, and a cozy bunk and lounging room.

All classes and breakfast service will be offered in the Bee House.

At Hunter Moon Homestead, we are committed to providing a tranquil and harmonious environment for all our guests.
