Artist in Residence Program

The Hunter Moon Homestead artist residency program places you on top of Little Bear Ridge with 360 degree views, stunning sunsets, and the quiet of nature to inspire your creative spirit. One to three week short-term stays are open to artists at all stages in their career to enhance their creative development.

Residencies are offered on a rotating basis during our 'swing' seasons (April and July-October).

The Hunter Moon Homestead residency supports artists of all disciplines, including visual artists, writers, musicians and performing artists, with the opportunity to spend dedicated time to focus your intention on creating a new body of work or completing an existing project. Arts professionals as well as emerging artists, are welcome to enjoy unencumbered free time to create in a beautiful setting.

Residents are encouraged to participate in community art happenings including studio tours, workshops and gallery events.

FAQs

HMH residencies are open to all professional artists working towards being a full time creator, that are in need of undistracted time to focus on building their body of work.

We'll also consider:

  • Art educators on summer break or sabbatical.
  • Young artists recently graduated from BFA or MFA programs.

One to three week stays are available for artists in our residency program during the months of April and July - October. Lodging is offered completely free of charge.

Accomodations at Hunter Moon Homestead are offered free of charge during your residency so that you can focus on creating new works. Residents are asked to donate one small piece of new work created during your stay for our permanent collection. During your stay you will be asked to perform basic chores (cleaning, laundry, etc) to help maintain our facilites.

Travel expenses are the responsibility of the residents. Provided transportation from the airport to the Homestead should be arranged prior to your arrival.

There is no cost to submit your application for residency.

Depending on the season and availability Residents are invited to stay in either our Bee House Studio loft bedroom (King Bed) or one of our Pond View Cabins (Queen Bed).

A shared bath house is available for use that includes a warm shower, toilet and sink. The Bee House studio has a small kitchen with basic amenities.

Residents are asked to bring and prepare all of their own food. There is a communal kitchen and shared refrigerator available in the Bee House Studio. Any kitchen use must be thoroughly cleaned and returned in the same condition as you found it.

In addition to our 23 acres property, and your private accomodation, artists may choose to create inside the Bee House Studio. There is shared studio space inside our converted grain barn full of natural light and large windows with a view of the pond.

Residents are asked to bring all needed materials and supplies. There are limited resources in our closest town (Moscow) including Michaels and Builder's Hardware store for basic tools and provisions.

We do have basic wood working tools available upon request and with prior consent for use, as well as off-site access to a pottery wheel and small kiln. If you require the use of tools during your stay, give details in your application.

We are located in a highly rural area, on a ridge between two canyons. There is a lot of wildlife and amazing floral and fauna in every season. There are a few hiking trails nearby and lots of smaller towns to visit.

The nearest "city" with groceries and amenities is Moscow, ID, located about a 30 minute drive from us.
