Just before dawn this morning the crescent moon rises wearing a hue of muddy umber. The sky is dark blue black above it and dark golden below. The celestial views from my bedroom window humble and inspire me. I love being in the flow of the natural world.

I can see 4 large masses in the field east of the house. They are too far away initially to be certain of their species, but as they get closer I can see it is a group of quite large raccoons. I am sure they have their rounds. Maybe they seek out the veg scraps I have been putting out for compost?

This trip has been planned for several months. Rick is taking a week off from work and Jessie and Jake are coming for part of the week. There is a lot of work to do to reclaim the barn from the rodents and insects. We call the smaller barn the Bee House. Up in the south facing walls there is a small hole and we can see a nice bee population has made a home for their lively hive. Jessie has made this her project, turning the two-story barn into a home.

I have been feeling that I straddle two worlds, I cannot fully occupy my city life and my country life. This feeling is disconcerting and I try my best to stay in gratitude and embrace the present moment. Each time we take the drive from Seattle to Idaho we take a bit of our possessions in boxes to be unpacked into the farm house.
